Tried Relay Foods

Recently I tried out Relay Foods, (www.relayfoods.com) which is a healthy online grocery store. Most everything is obtained from neighboring states on the east coast. Frankly I didn't know if after my 1st order I'd be using them a 2nd time. but I am! The great thing about Relay Foods is that you don't have to commit for any length of time to being their customer and can purchase from them just once, or at intervals that suit you. Freedom! Having said that, here I am becoming a regular customer myself. Ha!

I was very impressed with the quality of the produce, prepackaged foods and their "pantry" items (crackers and other dry foods).

When I first visited their website I spent a good while browsing all the options. There are many.

I decided to get a little bit of everything. Fresh fruits and veggies, premade salads and soups, dry foods and one of their 1-pot recipes.

Everything was fresh and delicious. Let me tell you about the 1-pot recipe. I was thrilled to learn they have this option on their website. You choose a dish (recipe), which is a crockpot recipe basically. You indicate how many servings you want to make and a list appears on your screen of all the ingredients and quantity of them that are required. What I liked about this aspect is that the system didn’t force me to buy all of the ingredients. For example, some of them I already have at home, so I unchecked those particular items and they weren’t added to my order and I wasn’t charged.

I scheduled my order for pick-up two days in advance, and when I picked it up it was easy as pie. The Relay Foods truck was already there, and when I walked up to get my groceries, 2 big bins were brought out. One contained the produce and premade foods, the other contained the dry items. It was only at this point that everything got placed into shopping bags for me. I really like that.

My 1-pot recipe was delicious! I simply followed the recipe they emailed to me. I also really enjoyed their very fresh baked bread and premade salad which came with a side of dressing and a side of sunflower seeds.

The 2 soups and hummus I ordered were outstanding. I got a lentil soup and a tomato with garden veggies soup. They truly tasted freshly made. Plus for me was that the veggies in the tomato soup were crispy rather than mushy. What a difference to what I have at times purchased at grocery stores and even at restaurants. I love a good soup but don’t like making them and am not a fan of canned soups.

As for the hummus, it was truly the best I’ve ever tasted. (Sticks) . Plenty of garlic and lemon in there gave it nice flavor kick. Yum!
