Postmaster, Sends & Delivers

Checked out a new Southern-style restaurant in Cary, called Postmaster. They focus on using seasonal and local ingredients. I knew I’d like it as soon as I stepped inside. There are tons of windows with lots of natural light streaming in, and light-colored tables and bar, which makes for a very relaxed and welcoming feeling.

I planted myself at the bar because I really wanted to see their black & white striped backsplash up close. I’ve seen it in Postmaster’s social media posts prior to my visit, and it intrigued me. It’s so simple and ordinary, & so fitting.

I asked the bartender for a drink suggestion and I really liked what I ended up ordering. It was a well-made cocktail called, The Verde Desierto. It was strong and delicious. Otherwise known as PERFECT, as I like to say. What a great start to the evening.

As for the eats, I went with the Field Pea & Country Ham Gratin - cornbread crumble, turnip, herbs. This dish had a delicious, creamy flavor to it with a nice hint of saltiness from the ham. Damn this was good country cookin'!

At the entrance to the restaurant, there’s a comfy sitting/waiting area with old-fashioned upholstered seating, and 3 bookshelves which contain some admirable, well-chosen cookbooks.

Overall, Postmaster has a very relaxed atmosphere, great food & drinks, and kick-ass country rock playing overhead. Ambiance, service and price were excellent too. I’ll be back here soon for sure.

Cary is getting one new great place open up after another lately. Have you noticed? 🍸
