Mardi Gras Kick-Off at Motorco

Happy Fat Tuesday! Last Saturday, Motorco held a Mardi Gras Kick-Off event which was a lot of fun. I knew I wouldn't be able to celebrate big tonight, so was really glad there was a fun event to go to on Saturday.

Evening started off with acrobatics by Cirque De Vol. Something of a hoola hoop got lowered from the ceiling. The crowds got politely guided out of its way, and a woman hoisted herself up on it and proceeded to do some scary looking moves. She was no novice so the fear was strictly on my part because, well, it looked super scary to do. It was great entertainment though and she was a total professional.

Next, the all-female band Beauty Operators took to the stage. They were seriously great. They did some covers and some original material, but all of it was really well done. I find a show of any kind to be thoroughly good, if at no point throughout it, did I find myself wishing a certain song would end, or if I simply just didn't care for the sound.

Band member Sandee Washington brought on the corny jokes while there were a few minutes of techncal difficulties being worked out by the other band members. Who doesn't appreciate some corniness? Loved it!

Lastly, Bulltown Strutters started to populate the stage. I had never seen them perform but kept noticing an increasingly large number of people getting up there. I was confused as to what was going on. It was a whole lot of people. Then someone said that the band consists of MANY members so it will be quite a show. It totally was. Great energy and overall sound.

Band member Misty Waters has a great voice. Very old-fashioned sound to it and very powerful.

To my surprise, I noticed a girl band member playing a trombone. Woohoo! She was great! Then next to her I noticed someone I already know, a local blogger (Triangle Explorer) who was playing the trombone too.

Well, besides all that, a conga line formed. Why is that so fun? It seems silly but it's always such great fun! Suddenly a limbo bar appeared. Need I even say who lost her balance on the 2nd go 'round? It was fun nonetheless.

Great drinks were flowing and the crowd was really fun. That makes a big difference.

Drink recommendations:

As best as I recall...

---Maple Bourbon beer

---Raspberry beer

---Mango Hurricane cocktail
