ANSEL ADAMS: MASTERWORKS, is a new photography exhibition at North Carolina Museum of Art. American photographer & environmentalist, Ansel Adams is best know for his beautiful black and white images of majestic landscapes of America's west. He was born in 1902 in San Francisco, California, and died in 1984.
He was known to say "You don't take a photograph, you make it".
He deemed every aspect of a photo to be important. When photographing vast landscapes, he liked to make the closest and furthest parts of the photo to be featured as clearly as possibly, thus making the entirerty, the subject.
He conveyed emotions and moods in his photos by the way he worked with lighting and shadows. His favorite location to photograph for most of his 50-year career, was Yosemite National Park in California. He was passionate about nature and admired its beauty.
This exhibition consists of 48 photographs that Ansel Adams selected late in his life as a collection of what he deemed to be his best works.
Featured are some very iconic photographs and some that are less known. All are stunning to look at.

Ahhhh, that beautiful lighting...
One of his best known photographs is Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico. Apparently, although Ansel Adams was know to wait very patiently, for just the right lighting, this photo was spontaneous. Just moments after, the lighting diminshed.
