Annelore's German Bakery in Raleigh, NC

There are only a few bakeries in the area that I'm a die-hard fan of, and Annelore's German Bakery is one of them. You can find their stand at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh, NC. (See address details below). They are the vendor at the very end of the line of vendors (across from the State Farmers Market Restaurant).

Eventually, they will have a storefront in downtown Cary, NC, but that is still in the works. Come to think of it, I have read about the "coming soon" Cary store, what seems like ages ago, but apparently it's still a go, according to the person working the stand on the day I went to buy my "lunch".

So what did I buy? A Cheese pretzel, Bee Sting cake, and a salted caramel macaron. All were fresh and delicious, as their goods always are. Now if you've never had German baked goods, get ready for a sweet yet less than your typical sweet treat experience. Meaning, they are not as sugary as American desserts tend to be.

Over the years I'm quite sure I've tried all of their desserts and keep coming back for that Bee Sting cake. The cake is light and the filling is fluffy. You would think that filling is very sweet, but it's hardly sweet at all which is really nice. On top is where the bulk of the sweetness is. Sugar & honey hold those almonds in place. It's like a sweet tease.

The cheese pretzel tasted homemade and would have gone great with a beer, but I enjoyed it with iced tea. I was at work after all. Next time! ;)

The salted caramel macaron was yummy too. OK , so not your traditional German food item, but it was done well, so no complaints here. Plus, I appreciate a little variety while still keeping it mostly German.

On my next trip I'll try the Italian bread. I was eyeing it on this visit, but already had dinner plans for the evening and didn't see the point in buying fresh bread if I wasn't going to get to eat it until the next day. I'm serious about fresh bread. I asked about it and was told that they put cheese inside, so... YES PLEASE! I will most definitely be getting that in the future!
